Dr. Darlene Reid, ND (she/her) is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Saskatchewan.

Her premedical training was at Queen’s University, graduating with a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education, as well as a Bachelor of Life Sciences. She spent 4 more years at CCNM in Toronto and graduated with her ND in 2001.

Dr. Reid practices “functional medicine”, meaning that although a patient may or may not have a classified disease, when a patient’s body is not functioning optimally, there can be some really significant symptoms. The root causes need to be identified before walking patients through the steps needed to facilitate optimal function again. These steps may include dietary changes, vitamin or herbal support to balance hormones, ensuring optimal digestive function, supporting the body’s ability to eliminate effectively, and developing stress management plans.

Listening to patients’ symptoms in completion is very valuable in diagnosing the root cause of their health concerns. Physical examination and laboratory test are additional diagnostic tools. There are many laboratory tests available through private labs which can be accessed if additional information is required. Being trained in pharmaceutical medications and their interactions with natural medicines is very important so that a discussion of medications can take place and natural remedies can be prescribed safely.

Dr. Reid’s clinical experience over the years has been diverse, including addressing patients with hormonal imbalances and a wide spectrum of digestive concerns such as IBS and SIBO. She has a significant amount of experience helping patients with Hashimoto’s disease and other autoimmune conditions, having had two of these autoimmune conditions herself.

Over the years, Dr. Reid has developed a practice focus helping patients with headaches and migraines. Migraine sufferers are often referred to as having “sensitive brains”. Her approach to patients who suffer from migraines is to identify functional issues that are contributing to the manifestation of pain in the brain and other associated neurological symptoms.

Dr. Reid strives for clinical excellence, which means continuous research and ongoing education to be able to develop exceptional treatment plans for her patients. She feels that patient education is key to the ability to adopt lifestyle and dietary changes that facilitate excellent health. She has an approach that patients find effective in developing an understanding of their health concerns as well as developing the momentum to make the changes necessary to get well.

Dr. Reid has always played an active role in the profession, serving as a director for five years on the OAND, as well as being a contributing writer to our national examinations, NPLEX. She is the current chair of the SAND. She is a member of the SANP and CAND professional associations.
